With the purpose of becoming entities of motivation and support for the Cadets participating in Class 24-01, the Puerto Rico Youth ChalleNGe Academy began last week the Sponsorship Project with an initial meeting between the young people and the staff assigned to each of them. The project that was established several years ago to serve as internal mentors during the residential phase has proven to be an important entity in the retention and permanence of young people; while helping them successfully meet the educational challenge.
The distance from family members, the adaptation to a new social and educational environment are factors that can affect the performance of the Cadets, so the presence of a sponsor as a guide during the remaining twenty weeks of stay in the academy can contribute to maximizing the young person's potential and their vision for the future. "It was a great experience; This way we feel more supported while we are here. We talk about many things and I know that I will be able to count on my sponsor” mentioned one of the participating Cadets when leaving the meeting.
During the first meeting, the sponsors and cadets exchanged impressions about the experience of the Acclimatization Phase, attendance at the Educational Fair, future goals and, above all, the study interests of the young people. On the other hand, the sponsors were able to talk with them about their work experience at the Puerto Rico Youth ChalleNGeAcademy and their willingness to collaborate with the Cadets to achieve the proposed plan. both educational, vocational and work.
After the great satisfaction that this first meeting caused, the group of Godfathers and Godmothers are already planning their next meeting whose purpose is varied, it may be to talk, seek information about vocational interests, review some material or simply enjoy some time to share and relax from the arduous educational routine.
