Huellas ChalleNGe: Cadets Leave Their Mark Across Puerto Rico

ree

Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico – As part of their holistic training, the Cadets of the Puerto Rico Youth ChalleNGe Academy participated in Huellas ChalleNGe, an innovative summer camp that, for one week, took them beyond the gates of Fort Allen to different municipalities across the Island to make a lasting impact in each community.

Each platoon was assigned to a different location —Aguadilla, Añasco, San Sebastián, Culebra, Jayuya, and Loíza— where they lived unique experiences that combined community service, recreation, and cultural enrichment.

A Week of Service and Commitment

In the mornings, Cadets dedicated themselves to community service, working directly with municipal entities and nonprofit organizations. Painting public spaces, cleaning recreational areas, supporting environmental projects, and assisting vulnerable communities were just some of the initiatives that positively impacted hundreds of citizens.

This effort not only benefited the host towns but also gave the Cadets the opportunity to strengthen their values of leadership, discipline, solidarity, and pride in serving Puerto Rico.

Culture and Recreation: Learning Through Experience

Afternoons were filled with cultural and recreational activities. Cadets enjoyed historical tours, visits to local attractions, and sports events that allowed them to explore the richness of each region. From the beaches and island charm of Culebra, to the mountain traditions of Jayuya and the cultural heritage of Loíza, every activity deepened their connection to Puerto Rico’s diversity and identity.

A Legacy That Lasts

Huellas ChalleNGe represents more than just a camp—it is a testament to the Academy’s mission of shaping young leaders who leave a positive mark on their communities. Upon returning to Fort Allen, Cadets carried with them not only memories and new experiences but also the pride of knowing they made a real difference.

Through this initiative, the Puerto Rico Youth ChalleNGe Academy reaffirms its motto: “We are MORE than a high school diploma”, creating life-changing experiences while strengthening communities across the Island.
