The Service to the Community Component that the Puerto Rico Youth ChalleNGe Academy promotes as part of its operational and educational philosophy has allowed the young participants to empathically develop a social commitment that addresses the community needs in their respective environments. Every month, this Component meets the needs of institutions, mostly non-profit, and collaborates with them in different facets that vary from cleaning, conditioning of areas, support in offering services, food delivery, company for elderly people. golden, among others.
These actions aim to promote inclusion among young people in the discussion of social issues and the contribution of ideas to improve these situations. Community services, in most cases, provide the Cadet with an experience with a reality that perhaps they did not know; at the same time that their leaders at the Academy instruct them with strategies to be part of the solution and not the problem.
“This experience has allowed me to see the need that there are in many places and I have felt good knowing that my help improves people's environment” said a Cadet while painting a community structure.
“This sharing with older people, listening to them and playing with them has been one of the best things I have done because it makes me feel good knowing that we are accompanying them” a young woman reacted while arranging the Bingo chips held at a Senior Center in the area.
Community Services are a fundamental part of our Academy and emphasize the development of responsible citizens committed to their environment.
